My Favorite Online Google Translate Alternatives

Yandex Translate is my favorite Google Translate alternative for online language translation. It goes toe-to-toe with Google in terms of functionality. It includes text, documents, images, and domain translation. Similar to Google Translate has voice input with translation history. And, it allows you to translate up to 10000 characters per translation which is twice the limit on Google Translate.

Yandex is a Russian-origin internet company that offers similar services to Google including search, browser, maps, music, news, video, translation, and more. Yandex Translate is a free alternative to Google Translate. This free online translation service works with ~100 languages. You can directly add the text or use the voice input feature to add your input. Then you can translate it into any of the supported languages almost instantly. After the translation, you can listen to the input text and output text. Below that, it lists the usage examples of your input along with a dictionary, and similar words. Apart from text translation, Yandex Translate also translates DOC, DOCX, PDF, XLS, XLSX, PPT, PPTX, and other files up to 5MB in size. It can translate websites as well. Last, but not least, it can also translate text from images. You can upload an image and translate the text from that into any language.

In the middle of the input and output sections, there are two buttons. The top button translates the added text to the selected language. And the bottom button enables automatic translation as you type. There is no mention of how long text you can translate using this service. However, it does crash for large text. The limit is somewhere around 3000 characters per translation, which is pretty good. This tool is hosted on Vercel and you visit its source on GitHub.

TREX.me

Instead of a regular translator, TR-EX.me is a bilingual contextual dictionary. It is not ideal for text translation but it s really good for learning and practicing a new language. It supports around 41 languages. You have to set the input and output language and then add the sentence that you want to translate. In the results, it contains translations of variation of the added phrase. It also provides examples of using that in various sentences. This all makes it a really handy tool not only to learn a new language but to also improve vocabulary.

Frequently Asked Questions

There are so many good language translators out there but I personally like Yandex Translate as a Google Translate alternative. It offers the same set of features with double the character limits for each translation.

For most languages, Google Translate is more effective. However, Yandex is better for translations into Eastern European languages.

If we go as per the internet, DeepL Translate provides the most accurate translations.
