5 Best Free Image Color Palette Generator Software For Windows

Here is a list of best free image color palette generator software for Windows. Using these software, you can generate a color palette by using the colors of an image. Graphic designers can use these freeware in order to create a drawing or template based on a specific image.

In most of these software, you only need to input an image to get a color palette consisting of various colors, unique color codes, and color names. However, some of these software let you generate custom color palette by manually picking colors from an image. Both types of photo color palette generators can generate color palette from images without much hassle. After generating color palette, these generators let you save it as PDFPalette TransformRSD, etc. formats.

Some of these software are also web-based and hence, they need a web browser to work. Besides this, they also don’t have native palette saving options. Hence, to save the color palette and image, you need to use the browser’s Print option.

Overall, most of these are simple and easy to use software which anyone can use without any difficulty. Go through the list to find your favorite image color palette generator.

My Favorite Image Color Palette Generator Software for Windows:

SE-ColorMaker is my favorite software because it lets you manually create a color palette by picking colors from an image. Plus, it provides various information about the colors in the palette like color name, color code, RGB value, HLS value, etc.

SE-ColorMaker

SE-ColorMaker is a free image color palette generator software for Windows. Using this software, you can pick colors from any image and create a color palette consisting of picked colors. Along with colors, it also saves unique color codes, RGB values, color name, HLS values, and other information in the generated color palette. Another good thing about this software is its ability to support images of almost all formats like PNG, JPEG, TIFF, GIF, BMP, etc.

The process of creating a color palette is pretty simple. First, go to its Color Picker Tab and load an image to it. After that, select any point of the image to pick the color of that point. Now, go to its Pallete Generator Tab and press the Add button to save the selected color in the color palette. Similarly, you can add more colors and save the color palette as a Palette Transform file.

Besides generating color palette from images, you can also use it to generate color palette using the desktop background. Plus, some additional tabs like Color Editor (to generate custom color), Existing Palettes (to manage existing color palettes), Color Palette (to view all information associated with a color), etc., are also present in it.

Ryijy Stitch Designer

Ryijy Stitch Designer is a free cross stitch pattern making software that can also be used as an image color palette generator.

How to generate color palette from images using this free software:

In it, you can input an image of PNG, BMP, JPG, or GIF format. After importing an image, go to its Threads Section to view the color palette consisting of all the colors present in the image. With each color, you also get a number given by this software. A sorting order menu is also present in this Thread Section. Using the order menu, you can sort color palettes according to Hue, Count, Luminance, and Saturation. The generated color palette along with the image can easily be saved in RSD format.

As this software is primarily a stitch pattern generator, hence several stitch pattern making tools are also present in it. Some of the stitch pattern making tools are Color Reduction (to decrease the number of thread color), Quick Color Selection, Size Of Color Palette. After specifying the thread colors, use its Print Option to generate a Stitch Pattern.

Color-Palette-Generator

Color-Palette-Generator is a free open source image color palette generator software for Windows. It is also portable and web-based software that needs a web browser to work. However, it does not work properly in the Google Chrome browser. My suggestion is to use it with the Edge browser as it works perfectly with it.

It is one of the simplest photo color palette generators because just by uploading an image to it, you can generate a color palette. You can use images of various formats (PNG, JPG, BMP, TIF, etc.) with this software without much hassle. In it, you also get a Random option that automatically fetches a random image from the internet and generates a corresponding color palette. In the color palette, you can view the actual colors along with the unique color codes. However, in the generated color palette, you only get five main colors along with their unique codes.

It does not provide any option to save the color palette. The only way to save the color palette is by using the native Print option of the browser that lets you save the palette in a PDF file.

Color Palette Generator

Color Palette Generator is a free open source image color palette generator software for Windows. It is a web-based software and needs a web browser to work. However, in my testing, it does not work properly with the Google Chrome browser and worked perfectly with the Edge browser.

In this software, you can input images of PNG, JPG, GIF, BMP, and TIF formats. According to the colors present in the image, this software automatically generates a color palette and shows it under the image. To add an image and to generate a color palette, you need to follow some simple steps.

  • First, open the folder of this software and open its img subfolder and then add all the images using which you want to generate color palettes.
  • Now, go to its js folder and open the app javascript file in Notepad or any text editor.
  • After that, find img = loadImage("img/default.jpg") code and replace the default.jpg with another image name present in the img folder and save changes.
  • Lastly, launch the Index file in the browser to get both the image and generated color palette.

You can save the color palette with the original image as a PDF file using the Print option. This software does not provide the unique color codes or name of palette colors, which is the main letdown of this software.

Color Thief

Color Thief is yet another free open source web-based image color palette generator software for Windows. As a web-based software, it needs a web browser to work. By using the Index file of this software, you can launch it in any web browser. After launching its interface, drop an image of formats like PNG, JPG, BMP, GIF, etc. over its Drag An Image Here option. As soon as you drop an image, you will view the uploaded image along with one Dominant Color and with a Color palette consisting of multiple colors. In its color palette, you only get 9 common colors of that image. However, names and color codes of the color palette colors are not provided by this software.

Besides this, it does not provide any option to save the generated color palette. When you save the color palette using the print option of the browser, then you will lose the colors of the color palette in the output PDF file. Overall, it is not an ideal photo color palette generator software. But for generic use, you can go for this one.
